The Daniel Bagley Library is a special space for learning where students become independent readers who can identify reading material that they enjoy reading and start along the road to becoming effective users of ideas and information.
The library reading goal is to create a school of readers who enjoy what they read. The library contains an array of reading materials which students can engage with and check out to take home. Students are exposed to story elements and common literary terms during their weekly lessons which include read alouds, puppetry, reader's theater, book talks, and reading blogs.
In collaboration with classroom teachers, students have lessons that engage them in the research process: identifying what information is needed and what resources might have that information; locating and evaluating those resources and the information within them and noting it; organizing and sharing the information; and evaluating the process.
We have about 10,000 books in the library, and 15 computers with access to many kid-friendly databases as well as the Internet. Our databases are accessible at home with the appropriate log-in information. The catalog can be accessed in the Seattle School District Library Catalogs online:
