Principal's Message

Dear Daniel Bagley Families,
I think that spring has finally sprung - we are sure ready for it! With the season, however, comes many obstacles and challenges to overcome. As principal, I wear many hats throughout the day to manage and alleviate those obstacles and challenges. This month's letter will provide you a fashion show, of sorts, of some of my hats.

Budget Analyst/Human Resources hat: I have spent the last month preparing the school budget for the next school year. The staff and I have created a plan for our fiscal resources that we believe will allow us to address student needs and strengthen our collaboration as instructors. With the budget process, comes the need to adjust staff for a variety of reasons. A number of forms, interviews and conversations come with the adjustment of staff in a school building. I will share staffing with the community as we finalize the budget process.

Parking enforcement hat: Daniel Bagley is a growing school - we have approximately 70 more students than we did three years ago! With added students of course come added parents...who drive cars. This year we have six full size buses in the front of the school and four smaller buses in the back. We are running out of space to park for pick up. I am working with the PTA board to create a map of legal parking to which parents can refer. A few reminders: please use marked parking spaces in the parking lot, our bushes don't like cars on them; the front of the school on the west side of the street is a bus load zone only; Bethany has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot with the expectation that parents use the cross walk at 80th and Stone Ave. when crossing the street.

Test coordinator hat: May 1 is the first day of the state standardized test, the MSP (Measurements of Student Progress). This assessment is for students in third through fifth grade. I want to remind families to make sure their children have had a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast on the days of testing. The MSP schedule will be in the next Baby Buzz letter. In May, all students in K-5 grades will participate in the computerized MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment. This is the same assessment the students took this winter. Finally, students in grades 3-5 will participate in the district's climate survey on April 25. This survey is optional and parents may complete a request that their child not participate. Letters were sent home a few weeks ago regarding the survey.

Well, that is an example of a few of the hats I wear each day. I think I will talk with the student government about having hat day as well as pajama day next year; I'll be well prepared. Have a safe, fun, and relaxing spring break!

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
Erika Ayer
